چکیده

In this paper we study the footprint of cosmic string as the topological defects in the very early universe on the cosmic microwave background radiation. We develop the method of level crossing analysis in the context of the well-known Kaiser-Stebbins phenomenon for exploring the signature of cosmic strings. We simulate a Gaussian map by using the best fit parameter given by WMAP-7 and then superimpose cosmic strings effects on it as an incoherent and active fluctuations. In order to investigate the capability of our method to detect the cosmic strings for the various values of tension, Gμ, a simulated pure Gaussian map is compared with that of including cosmic strings. Based on the level crossing analysis, the superimposed cosmic string with Gμ & 4× 10 in the simulated map without instrumental noise and the resolutionR = 1 could be detected. In the presence of anticipated instrumental noise the lower bound increases just up to Gμ & 5.8× 10.

The Implications of the Cobe-dmr Results for Cosmic Strings

We compare the anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background radiation measured by the COBE experiment to the predictions of cosmic strings. We use an analytic model for the ∆T/T power spectrum that is based on our previous numerical simulations to show that the COBE results imply a value for the string mass per unit length, μ under the assumption that cosmic strings are the source of the mea...

Radiation Anisotropy Induced by Cosmic Strings 12

We report on a current investigation of the anisotropy pattern induced by cosmic strings on the cosmic microwave background radiation (MBR). We have numerically evolved a network of cosmic strings from a redshift of Z = 100 to the present and calculated the anisotropies which they induce. Based on a limited number of realizations, we have compared the results of our simulations with the observa...

A Statistic for the Detection of Long Strings in Microwave Background Maps

Using analytical methods and Monte Carlo simulations, we analyze a new statistic designed to detect isolated step-like discontinuities which are coherent over large areas of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) pixel maps. Such coherent temperature discontinuities are predicted by the Kaiser-Stebbins effect to form due to long cosmic strings present in our present horizon. The background of the co...

Cosmic String Lensing and Closed Time-like Curves

In an analysis of the gravitational lensing by two relativistic cosmic strings, we argue that the formation of closed time-like curves proposed by Gott is unstable in the presence of particles (e.g. the cosmic microwave background radiation). Due to the attractor-like behavior of the closed time-like curve, we argue that this instability is very generic. A single graviton or photon in the vicin...

The Revival of Cosmic Strings

Cosmic strings are one-dimensional topological defects which could have been formed in the early stages of our Universe. They triggered a lot of interest, mainly for their cosmological implications: they could offer an alternative to inflation for the generation of density perturbations. It was shown however that cosmic strings lead to inconsistencies with the measurements of the cosmic microwa...
